RONALD McDONALD
Read To Learn
A partnership program with the Department of Education (DepEd) that teaches beginning reading in public schools, Ronald McDonald Read to Learn Program was launched in 2002 as a response to a DepEd survey claiming that 4 out of 10 first graders who attend public elementary schools finish the level without learning how to read. We provide materials to Grade 1 and Grade 2 learners while also training educators on teaching beginning reading.
Read to Learn was pilot-tested in 14 public schools in Metro Manila, reaching a total of 4,200 first graders. After our pilot test, non-readers among Grade 1 public school learners decreased from 40% to 4%.
